PULLMAN, Wash. (August 31, 2023) – Washington State men's cross country runner Alec Barran and women's cross country runner Alaina Stone Boggs the Academic Services Student-Athletes of the Month for August, 2023.

Barran, a junior from Issaquah, Wash., has produced a 3.99 GPA while majoring in computer science. Last year, Barran ran a 1,500m personal record at the Whitworth Peace Meet and heads into his third season on the track team with personal records 4:28.69 in the mile and 1:56.37 in the 800m. In cross country last season, Barran posted a Top-100 finish at the Pac-12 Cross Country Championships in Riverside, Calif. and recorded his season-best 8k time at the 2022 Bill Dellinger Invitational. In addition to being an honors student, Barran has plans to volunteer as a Peer Academic Counselor this fall.

Stone Boggs, a senior from Colville, Wash., has posted a 3.63 GPA while majoring in kinesiology and minoring in psychology, and strength and conditioning. Last season, Stone Boggs anchored the WSU record-setting women's distance medley relay team who posted a 11:15.35 to finish second at the Ken Shannon Invitational in Seattle. Stone Boggs also owns the women's indoor freshman 3,000m record (9:38.30), the second-best times in program history for the indoor 3000m (9:21.29) and women's outdoor 5000m (16:08.95), and the seventh-fastest women's indoor mile (4:46.64). Stone Boogs also finished 14th in the 6k at the 2022 NCAA Division I West Region Championships and 18th at the 2022 Pac-12 Cross Country Championships.
