PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington States rowing's Ivy Elling Quaintance and men's golf's Nicklaus Chiam have been named the Academic Services Student- Athletes of the month for October 2019.
A senior from Sidney, British Columbia, Elling Quaintance has been a standout in the classroom boasting a 3.79 GPA and making the President's Honor Roll every semester while pursuing a degree in sports science. She has been named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team and College Rowing Association National Scholar Athlete each of the past two years while earning WSU Athletic All-Academic Team distinction for the past three years. In the water Elling Quaintance has been a very accomplished rower both at WSU and internationally. At the 2019 Canadian National Rowing Championship she took third place in the women's pair event and was invited to participate in the Canadian National Team. Elling Quaintance was a member of the Canadian U23 World Championship Team and rowed with the women's 8 crew that won gold at the world championship. Last season at WSU, she earned CRCA Division I All-American Honorable Mention and Pac-12 All-Conference honors.Â
A senior from Singapore, Chiam has excelled in the classroom with a 3.49 GPA earning a spot on the President's Honor Roll list while pursuing a degree in International Business. His work in the classroom earned him a spot on the Pac-12 All-Academic team as an honorable mention while also taking home Srixon/Cleveland Golf All-American Scholar distinction last year. In addition, he has been named to the WSU Athletic All-Academic Team for the past three years. As an international student himself, Chiam has been an active member of the WSU community as a student ambassador for new students, welcoming young Cougs to campus. Out on the course, Chiam has been one of the Cougars' top golfer, leading the team in scoring average as a junior.
Each month Washington State Academic Services will honor a male and female student-athlete that demonstrates commitment to academics while participating in their sport.
