Pullman Declares Dec. 2 Pac-12 Centennial Day
Â
PULLMAN, Wash. – Today, Wednesday, Dec. 2, marks 100 years since the Pac-12 Conference, of which Washington State is a member, was formed as the Pacific Coast Conference. To commemorate the founding of the conference, the City of Pullman has officially declared today, "Pac-12 Conference Centennial Day".
Â
On Dec. 2, 1915, representatives from four leading West Coast universities came together to create an athletics conference devoted to both academic and athletics excellence. Washington State University became the fifth member of the Conference when it joined in 1917. Today, the Pac-12 comprises 12 leading universities that span the Western United States and boasts more national championships than any other conference.
Â
Tonight, Washington State will celebrate the Pac-12's Centennial as the Cougar men's basketball team takes on No. 13 Gonzaga at 8pm PT at Beasley Coliseum. Commemorative Pac-12 Centennial t-shirts will be given out and Mayor Glenn Johnson, also the public address person for men's basketball, will read the city's official proclamation at halftime. Â
