October 03, 2017 | Football
FORT WORTH, Texas – Washington State's Luke Falk was named the Davey O'Brien Award Quarterback of the Week after the win over No. 5 USC, the Davey O'Brien Foundation announced Tuesday.
The Davey O'Brien Foundation was founded in 1977 to honor and remember the strong character and leadership of football great, Davey O'Brien. Widely known for its Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award, the Foundation recognizes champions on and off the field through awards programs encouraging academic and career success.Â
In the 30-27 victory over USC, Falk went 34-of-51 for 340 yards and two touchdowns, becoming the Pac-12 Conference's career leader in completions and moved into a tie for second all-time in Pac-12 history with 105 career touchdown passes (Marcus Mariota, Oregon). WSU, now 5-0 for the first time since 2001, notched their first win over a Top-5 team since beating No. 5 Texas in the 2003 Holiday Bowl. Falk earned the same national honor last season following the 69-7 win over Arizona.
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award winner will be announced on Dec. 7 during ESPN's The Home Depot College Football Awards. The winner is not required to have won a weekly award during the season. A list of 16 semifinalists will be announced on Nov. 7, while the three finalists will be named on Nov. 21.
The Davey O'Brien Fan Vote, now in its 11th year, gives fans a chance to play a role in determining the award winner. Visit VoteOBrien.org daily to vote.
