Powell Named A Groza Award Star of the Week

PALM BEACH, Fla. – Washington State kicker Erik Powell was named one of the Lou Groza Award Stars of the Week, the Palm Beach County Sports Commission announced.
Powell, a redshirt-sophomore from Vancouver, Wash., connected on all three of his field goal attempts of 46, 47 and 37 yards, respectively, and also added four extra points in Washington State's comeback win at Rutgers. All three of his field goals eclipsed his previous career-long of 25 yards from last year.
Each week, three of the top kickers form the FBS division are recognized as the "Stars of the Week." Powell was joined this week by Minnesota's Ryan Santoso and Western Kentucky's Garrett Schwettman.
The Lou Groza Award will be presented as part of the ESPN Home Depot College Football Awards in Atlanta, Ga. on Thursday, December 10th. The three finalists will be honored at the 24th Annual Lou Groza Awards Banquet on Monday, December 7 at the Palm Beach County Convention Center in West Palm Beach, FL.
