FORT WORTH, Texas – Washington State quarterback Luke Falk was named a Davey O'Brien Quarterback Award Semifinalist by the Davey O'Brien Foundation Monday.
The Davey O'Brien National Quarterback Award® is presented annually to the nation's best college quarterback and is the nation's oldest and most prestigious national quarterback award. The Davey O'Brien Award honors candidates who exemplify Davey O'Brien's enduring character while exhibiting teamwork, sportsmanship and leadership in both academics and athletics. Falk, one of 17 semifinalists that includes five Pac-12 quarterbacks, has earned a spot on the Davey O'Brien Award "Great 8" Performance of the Week three times this season.
Falk enters the week second in the NCAA in passing (404.9), fourth in total offense (396.3) and passing yards (3,239), and tied for fourth in passing touchdowns (28). The Logan, Utah native leads the Pac-12 Conference in all four categories and has posted seven 300-yard games this season including a pair of 500-yard performances. Falk owns a 70.8 completion percentage this season while leading the Cougars to a 5-3 record with wins over Rutgers, Oregon and Arizona, all on the road.
Earlier this season, Falk was named the Walter Camp National FBS Player of the Week, the first Cougar to receive the honor since the 2004 season, the Pac-12 Offensive Player of the Week twice and the Maxwell Award Player of the Week.
After clearing the first round totals, the fan vote at VoteOBrien.org will reopen Tuesday, Nov. 3 and remain open until noon (CT) on Sunday, Nov. 22, for the second round of balloting. Fans are invited to cast their vote for the nation's best college quarterback as often as they wish.
The Fan Vote counts as five percent during each round of the voting process, and is combined with the results from the Davey O'Brien National Selection Committee, which is comprised of journalists, broadcasters, commentators and former winners.
