Coached by Dan Escalera at Santa Monica High, where he earned four varsity letters in football…also lettered three times in basketball and three times in track…during JUNIOR season rushed over 700 yards and scored 13 touchdowns…all-league first team pick…caught 22 passes, including four TD receptions…team was 7-4, lost the league title game and then fell by one point in the first round of the playoffs…SENIOR year received all-league honors…rushed for 1,025 yards and 19 touchdowns…an all-regional first team pick.
TIPPINS' SANTA MONICA COLLEGE CAREER
FRESHMAN (1998-99): Coached by Robert Taylor…in nine games had 628 yards on 110 carries and scored three touchdowns
SOPHOMORE (1999-2000): During 10-game season rushed for 732 yards and scored five touchdowns…averaged 107.0 all-purpose yards, 732 rushing, 227 passing and 111 in KO returns…All-Western State Conference (Southern Division) second team running back.
TIPPINS' WSU CAREER
JUNIOR (2000-01): Enrolled in August…did not see any varsity action during redshirt season.
RS-JUNIOR (2001-02): V-letter…Games - 10…Starts - 4…earned the following weekly team awards: Stanford/Offensive Back; MSU/Offensive Back.
? Moved into the backfield against Stanford after the injuries to Dave Minnich and Allen Thompson
? Finished the year with 268 net rushing yards to rank second on the team
? Against Montana State in first start responded with 100 yards rushing and 94 yards receiving, missing by six yards of becoming the first WSU running back to ever top 100 yards in each category
? At Stanford took over for the injured Thompson and finished the game with 75 yards, including 39 in the final quarter when WSU came back to win
