Cougars Fall To Oregon, 52-10

EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Joey Harrington threw two touchdown passes and ran for another in his first start as quarterback for Oregon to lead the Ducks to a 52-10 win over Washington State on Saturday.
Oregon (6-3 overall, 4-2 Pac-10) clinched a winning season, the sixth straight for the Ducks, and made themselves eligible for a bowl bid.
For nearly the entire game, Washington State (2-7, 1-5) was held to Rian Lindell's 25-yard first-quarter field goal.
Backup quarterback Paul Mencke finally scored for the Cougars when he connected on a 9-yard TD pass to tight end Josh Shavies with just 24 seconds to play.
Harrington opened the scoring for Oregon with a 28-yard pass to backup tailback Derien Latimer, the first touchdown pass of Latimer's career, 10:18 into the first quarter.
Latimer broke up the middle for 35 yards to score again at 8:23 into the second quarter, and starting tailback Reuben Droughns added two touchdowns of his own, a 4-yard run in the second quarter and a 52-yard pass from Harrington in the fourth quarter.
Harrington reversed from 8 yards out to run for another Oregon touchdown with 9:22 left in the game.
In a wild finish, Farwan Zubedi recovered an onside kick for the Cougars with 19 seconds to play, but Washington State receiver Collin Henderson fumbled a pass reception and Oregon linebacker Nathan Naggi took it 47 yards for the final score of the game with only a second left on the clock.
Harrington finished 15-of-24 for 239 yards.
Droughns rushed for 123 yards on 23 carries for Oregon, while Washington State freshman Deon Burnett was held to just 25 yards on 13 carries.
