PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. - Washington State University tennis player Erica Perkins lost a three-set rematch against 40th-ranked Ana Friganovic of New Mexico in the consolation singles round of the Riviera Women's All-American Championships Friday.
Friganovic defeated the Seattle native 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (2). Friganovic and Perkins met last season at No. 1 singles in a dual match in Seattle. In that three-set contest, the Cougar junior prevailed 6-7, 6-3, 6-4. The Cougars also won 8-1 against the then 29th-ranked Lobos.
The nation's toughest collegiate tournament comes to a close this weekend. Perkins had an automatic berth into the women's 32-player main draw with her preseason Intercollegiate Tennis Assocation No. 23 ranking.
