A star fullback for the Cougar football team from 1974-77, Dan Doornink rushed for 1,739 yards and left school ranked third all-time at Washington State in rushing yards. He caught 105 passes for 968 yards and finished with 2,838 all-purpose yards, second-best as a Cougar at the time. Doornink’s best season was his junior year, 1976, when he rushed for 422 yards and caught 53 passes for 469 yards. He was a Pacific-8 Conference Scholar-Athlete, a Second Team Academic All-American and received the YMCA sponsored WSU Athletic Director Award. Doornink was named MVP of the Challenge Bowl following his senior year and was selected by the New York Giants in the seventh round of 1978 NFL Draft. He rushed for 1,836 yards in an eight-year NFL career, one with the Giants and seven with the Seattle Seahawks.
