Clancy Williams was a star running back at Washington State University from 1962-64 and later went on to an outstanding career with the Los Angeles Rams for eight seasons in the National Football League. Williams was a 1964 first-team All-America pick by the Associated Press, Newspaper Enterprise Association and the Football Writers of America following a senior season in which he led team in rushing, scoring, total offense, pass receptions, punt returns and kickoff returns. Williams ended his time in Pullman second in career rushing yards (1,456) and kickoff return yards (719), and capped his Cougar career by playing in the 1965 Hula Bowl and East-West Shrine Game.  In the NFL Williams, a first-round selection of the Los Angeles Rams in 1965, led the team in interceptions three times and finished his career tied for second on the club's all-time list with 28, while averaging more than 25 yards per kickoff return.
