Hall of Fame
Bill Gaskins was a standout on the gridiron for a Washington State and a hurdler on the Cougar track team. From 1963-65, Gaskins was poetry in motion in the secondary while seeing duty as a kick returner and occasionally as a running back. He picked off five passes as a senior, the second-most by a Cougar in a single season at the time. He was named All-Pacific-8 Conference, All-West Coast and All-America Second Team that year. Gaskins was also honored with the J. Fred Bohler Award in 1965, given annually to a member of the team who exhibits the inspiration of former Cougar athletic leader. He was the first player in school history to record two-career interception returns for a touchdown. Gaskins spent two seasons with the Calgary Stampeders of the Canadian Football League. After his playing days, he became a college football official and a track official, serving as the starter for many home Cougar meets.
