SAN FRANCISCO – For the second-straight season, junior
AJ Armstrong led the Washington State University men's golf team academically as the St. Albert, Alberta native was named to the Pac-12 All-Academic First Team as announced by the conference office Monday. Alongside of Armstrong, junior
Grant Cole was picked to the honorable mention team for his first academic honor of his career.
Continuing his excellence on the course and in the classroom, Armstrong ended his junior year with a 3.89 GPA in accounting. Armstrong became just the sixth Coug in program history to earn multiple first team awards. On the course, Armstrong put together a solid season for WSU as he played in all 12 tournaments for the Cougs with his top finish of the season coming at the Itani Quality Homes Collegiate where he finished tied for fifth. He would finish his season with a 73.03 scoring average.
Earning his first all-academic award, Cole (Redmond, Wash.) completed his third year at WSU with a 3.34 GPA in accounting. Despite an illness keeping him out of action mid year, Cole played in six tournaments on the year and finished the season with a team-best 72.63 scoring average in 19 rounds played. He came up with his best tournament finish at the ASU Individual in April when he ended the two-day event in a tie for fourth place.
To be eligible for selection to the academic team, a student-athlete must have a minimum 3.0 overall grade-point average and participate in at least half of their team's scheduled regular season events.
