| By:
LOS ANGELES -- A warm day proved the right prescription for the Washington State sprinters, hurdlers and jumpers at the UCLA Jim Bush Legends track and field meet Saturday at Drake Stadium. And there were impressive throws Saturday at the Stanford Invitational.

Heptathlete Alissa Brooks-Johnson erased both her lifetime-best hurdles marks at UCLA. Brooks-Johnson won the 400m hurdles with a PR time of 57.86 seconds which is fourth in WSU all-time records. Earlier in the day she ran the 100m hurdles in a time of 13.73 seconds, third place at the meet but the seventh-fastest time in WSU history. Additionally she ran the anchor leg of the 4x100m relay (Jordyn Tucker, Regyn Gaffney and Tierney Silliman) which placed second with a season-best time of 45.60.

Cougars had a big presence the women's sprint races. Gaffney won the 100m in a season-best time of 11.75 while Tucker's PR time of 12.06 was fourth place and Silliman's time of 12.12 was a season-best for sixth place. Silliman led the way in the 200m with a PR time of 24.63 for third place, followed by Gaffney's 24.69 for fourth and Tucker's season-best 25.02 for sixth.

Molly Scharmann won the women's pole vault with a PR clearance at 13-5 1/4 (4.10m) which ties for third-best in WSU all-time records. Scharmann cleared four bars in only five attempts, and cleared her PR height on her first try. Katelyn Frost scored with her eighth-place height of 11-7 3/4 (3.55m).

Greer Alsop captured the title in the women's triple jump with season-best leap of 40-9 1/2 (12.43m).

Amani Brown also heaved a PR throw of 206-9 (63.02m) which was sixth-place overall and the fourth-best mark by a collegian. THEY SAID:
Wayne Phipps, WSU Director of Cross Country/Track & Field said, "We had several huge marks this weekend that had significant impact on the national list. Brock Eager continued his impressive season with an amazing series and a top-10 throw (nationally). Alissa Brooks-Johnson had an excellent season opener in both hurdles, with PRs in both and a top-10 national performance in the 400m hurdles despite clipping hurdle eight. Chandler Teigen's season opener was also very impressive; a four-seconds PR in the 1500m and a top five national ranking. He ran a very intelligent race and had a great finish closing in 56 seconds for his last lap. Vallery Korir broke her own school record with a very aggressive first 5000 meters in a very competitive invitational field. Nick Johnson and Molly Scharmann were both very impressive with nice PRs and nice wins in the 110m hurdles and pole vault respectively."

WSU Associate Head Coach Yogi Teevens (sprints and relays events) said, "We had a really good day. Lots of PRs and season-best marks. The 4x100 relays both weren't flawless so I'm very excited about how fast they can get as the season progresses!"

Redshirt senior heptathlete/hurdler Alissa Brooks-Johnson said, "I'm very happy with both my hurdle PRs. I stay confident in my training each week and trust my coach."
