Volleyball Advancing to NCAA Second Round for Second Year Highlights 2017

WSU VOLLEYBALL'S RETURN TO NCAA CHAMPIONSHIP HIGHLIGHTS 2017
For the second consecutive year, the Washington State University volleyball team received an at-large bid to the NCAA Women's Volleyball Championship Tournament and for the second consecutive season, WSU advanced to the Second Round...this feat was more impressive when taking into account junior OH starter McKenna Woodford was lost to injury for the final 18 matches, starter senior OPP starter Casey Schoenlein was lost to injury for the final seven matches and freshman S/OH starter Penny Tusa was lost to injury for the final seven matches...the 2016 and 2017 advancement to the NCAA Second Round are the most successful back-to-back NCAA results for the Cougars since the 1996-97 seasons, when Coach Greeny was a player...more NCAA  Tournament information on pages 4 & 5 of this release.

WSU COACHING STAFF
Jen Stinson Greeny completed her seventh season as WSU's head coach (109-120 at WSU, 7 years; 221-144 in career, 11 years)...2016 Pac-12 Coach of the Year...Greeny bio on page 6...2017 staff included associate head coach Burdette Greeny (seventh year) and assistant coach Shannon Hunt (fifth year)...all coaches are former WSU student-athletes...technical operations Grant Schoenlein (first year), volunteer coach James Dorr (second year) and student coach Kyra Holt...Kaysie Shebeneck is coordinator of operations (first year).

CASEY SCHOENLEIN NAMED PAC-12 SCHOLAR-ATHLETE OF THE YEAR
Senior Casey Schoenlein was named the Pac-12 Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year...has a 3.94 GPA majoring in Communication/Journalism and Media Production...will complete her Bachelor of Arts degree in in May 2018...a three-time Pac-12 All-Academic First Team selection and a three-year WSU Athletics All-Academic team member...WSU SAAC Executive Communications Officer and first woman representative to attend the 2017 Pac-12 SAAC Conference.

COUGARS ACADEMIC ALL-STARS
For the second consecutive year, the Washington State volleyball team had six players selected to the Pac-12 All-Academic teams...senior Casey Schoenlein (3.94 GPA in Communication/Journalism and Media Production) and junior McKenna Woodford (3.81 GPA in Biological Science) were named to the seven-member First Team...junior Olivia Coale (3.68 Human Development) was named to the seven-member Second Team...three Cougs were named to the Honorable Mention team: junior Claire Martin (3.26 GPA Mechanical Engineering), sophomore Alexis Dirige (3.20 GPA planning to major in Sports Science) and junior Ella Lajos (3.10 GPA in Advertising)...Schoenlein earned first team accolades for the third consecutive year while Martin earned honorable mention honors for the second conseutive year...a total of 63 student-athletes were selected to the 2017 Pac-12 All-Academic teams.

MIMS EARNS ALL-PAC-12, ALL-AMERICA HONORABLE MENTION HONORS
WSU junior Taylor Mims was named to the 2017 All-Pac-12 Volleyball First Team and to the PrepVolleyball.com and VolleyballMag.com All-America Honorable Mention teams...Mims, a 6-3 outside hitter from Billings, Mont., was a team co-captain and the Cougars statistical leader, leading WSU to its second consecutive NCAA Championship Tournament Second Round appearance...4.17 kps and 4.75 pps both 6th in Pac-12, 30th and 26th in NCAA..had 28 kills in the 3-1 win over Florida State, the most kills in a 2017 NCAA tournament match.
