Women’s Basketball Nonconference Schedule Announced

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State women's basketball team will play seven home games at Beasley Coliseum as part of its 2016-17 nonconference schedule, WSU Head Coach June Daugherty announced Monday. The Cougars will also play five nonconference games away from the Palouse, including a pair of games in the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout in Las Vegas, Nev.
 
"We're really looking forward to this season," Daugherty said. "We have depth at every single position and hope that this nonconference schedule will give us the experience and momentum to propel us into Pac-12 play. Our student-athletes have been pushing themselves this offseason, both at the European Championships and here in Pullman. We're all excited for another season of Cougar basketball."
 
The Cougars will begin their 2016-17 campaign with an exhibition matchup against Alaska-Anchorage, Sunday, Nov. 6 at Beasley Coliseum. The two sides have not faced each other in over 30 years, last playing in Anchorage in 1982.
 
WSU begins the regular season with a four-game homestand, Friday, Nov. 11 against Loyola Marymount in Pullman. The Cougars welcome LMU to Pullman to complete a home-and-home series that began in Los Angeles in 2014. Washington State won that matchup 87-60.
 
The Cougars will face Saint Mary's in their second game of the season, Sunday, Nov. 13 at Beasley Coliseum. Last season Washington State traveled to Moraga, Calif., to face the Gaels. After erasing an 18-point deficit, WSU was unable to complete a comeback against SMC, falling 75-71.
 
The season-opening homestand concludes with a pair of matchups the weekend of Nov. 18. Washington State welcomes San Francisco, Friday, Nov. 18, to face the Dons for the first time since 2009. The Cougars will have a short turnaround before battling Oklahoma State, Sunday, Nov. 20. Last year, WSU traveled to Stillwater, Okla., to face the Cowgirls for the first time in school history.
 
Washington State will take its first road trip of the season during the Thanksgiving holiday break. The Cougars will travel to Las Vegas, Nev., to compete in the South Point Thanksgiving Shootout. The event, taking place at South Point Arena, will consistent of two predetermined opponents. WSU will face Nebraska, Friday, Nov. 25 at 5 p.m. PT and Maryland, Saturday, Nov. 26 at 2:30 p.m. Last time the Cougars faced Maryland, WSU came away with its biggest upset in school history, defeating then No. 8 Maryland, 70-64, at the 2014 San Juan Shootout in Puerto Rico.
 
WSU will return to the Palouse for its final two home games of the nonconference season. Friday, Dec. 2 the San Diego Toreros travel to Pullman after the Cougars traveled to San Diego last season. The final nonconference home game features the Boise State Broncos at Beasley Coliseum, Sunday Dec. 4. BSU will be looking to avenge a 57-52 defeat at the hands of the Cougars last season.
 
The Cougars will take a quick trip north to face regional-rival Gonzaga, Thursday, Dec. 8, in Spokane, Wash. WSU looks to continue a strong streak against the Bulldogs, having won three of the last four meetings. Last season WSU beat GU, 55-48, in Pullman to improve to 8-1, its best start since 1989-90.
 
The 2016-17 nonconference season concludes with a two-game road trip to the Midwest. Sunday, Dec. 18, the Cougars will travel to St. Louis, Mo., to face the St. Louis Billikens. Washington State will wrap up its nonconference season with a Dec. 21 matchup against Kentucky in Louisville, Ky.
 
The 2016-17 Pac-12 Conference schedule, including television selections, will be announced in mid-September.
 
New season tickets go on sale, Monday, Aug. 15, with mini-plan options available Monday, Sept. 19, single-game tickets slotted for Oct. 3 for season ticket holders and CAF members, and single-game tickets available to the general public Oct. 17.
