Men's Golf in Seventh at Duck Invitational
March 25, 2013
EUGENE, Ore. - Washington State junior Jarrett Foote is in fourth place after the first two rounds of the Duck Invitational, and led the Cougar men's team to their seventh-place standing with one round to play.
The WSU men's golf team shot 9-over par over the first two rounds, with marks of 295 (7-over) and 290 (2-over) in the first and second rounds respectively. The Cougar men sit just three strokes behind UAB (sixth, 6-over) and four strokes back from both Oregon State and St. Mary's (tied for fourth, 5-over) with Tuesday's final round left to play.
"The day overall was okay," WSU Head Coach Garrett Clegg said. "Again, we struggled to get four good scores. Jarret (Foote) was awesome. He played great golf all day, he was rock solid and did a really great job. Whenever he made a bogey, he came right back with a birdie."
Foote carded a first-round 70 (2-under) and a second-round 69 (3-under) to finish the day at 5-under. He is three strokes back from tournament leader Jonathan Woo of Oregon (8-under). The next best finisher for the Cougars was junior Blake Snyder (tied for 32nd, 3-over).
"We have just got to play to get four scores," Clegg said. "We are okay in this tournament, but it's really important for the future of our season that we have a good final round tomorrow."
Host team Oregon led the 15-team field after the first two rounds with a team score of 9-under (567).
The final round of the Duck Invitational will start with tee times beginning at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday. Live scoring will be available during tournament play at www.golfstat.com, and results will be available at www.wsucougars.com following the competition.
