El Macero Classic Up Next for Cougs to Conclude the Regular Season

The Cougars conclude regular season play in central California.

THIS WEEK: Washington State men's golf will head to El Macero, Calif., for a three-day competition Friday through Sunday, April 12-14, for the El Macero Classic hosted by UC Davis at the El Macero Country Club.

THE COURSE: The El Macero Country Club plays at a par 72 on a 7,108-yard course...this is the sixth year the country club will host the El Macero Classic...the first round will tee-off at 8 a.m....a popular wedding destination, El Macero Country Club features luscious green fields surrounded by droves of trees, providing a combination of shade and sunny patches for players.

THE FIELD: Joining the Cougars will be No. 12 Texas Tech, No. 16 SMU, No. 51 Nevada, No. 53 Oregon State, No. 64 USF, No. 76 CSU Fullerton, tournament-host No. 86 UC Davis, GCU, Fresno State, Long Beach State, Loyola Marymount, Pacific, Sacramento State and Idaho.

LAST TIME ON THE GREEN: Last time the Cougars took the green was in late March at Creswell, Ore., for the Duck Invitational hosted by Oregon at the Emerald Valley golf course...the Cougars finished 13th with a three-round score of 911 (+47)...junior Daniel Kolar tied for 34th with a score of 223 (+7)...junior Nicklaus Chiam (+10, 226) tied for 43rd, just one stroke ahead of senior AJ Armstrong tied for 50th with a score of 227 (+11)...junior Scott Redelsperger followed behind Armstrong with a score of 235 (+19) in a tie 76th...senior Grant Cole rounded up the Cougars in a tie for 85th with a score of 242 (+26).

LAST TIME AT THE EL MACERO CLASSIC: Washington State last competed in the El Macero Classic in April 2017...The Cougars (+44, 908) finished seventh, highlighted by a tie for eighth by then-junior Derek Bayley (+7, 223)...then-freshman Daniel Kolar tied for 20th after carding a 228 (+12), just one stroke ahead of then-junior Zach Anderson (+13, 229) in a tie for 28th...then-senior Nick Mandell and then-Junior Brian Mogg tied for 33rd with scores of 230 (+14)...then-sophomore AJ Armstrong (+21, 231) competed as an individual, tying for 55th.

THE LINEUP: Representing the Cougars at El Macero will be senior AJ Armstrong, sophomore Ryan Maine, junior Daniel Kolar, senior Grant Cole and junior Scott Redelsperger…junior Nicklaus Chiam will be competing as an individual.

COACHES: Head coach Dustin White continues to lead the Cougars, as his third year as head coach reaches its conclusion...White returned to the Palouse in 2016 as the head coach after golfing for Washington State 1999-2003 as one of the most decorated golfers in Cougar history...while at WSU, White earned three All-Pac-12 selections, including a first team selection in 2002...White even holds a school record for top-10 finishes (8), which includes a first place finish and national player of the week honors...while away from the Palouse, White spent time golfing professionally, even qualifying and participating in the 2006 US Open...assisting White in the conclusion of his first year as an assistant coach is Kevin Tucker...Tucker golfed for the Cougars from 2006-10...he became just the second Cougar to participate in the NCAA Regional Championship in his junior, returning the following year...Tucker returned to Washington State in 2018 after spending a few years as a professional golfer.
