TUCSON, Ariz. –Washington State men's golf is in 10th at the end of the second round of the National Invitational Tournament (N.I.T.) hosted by Arizona at Omni Tucson National Golf Course at Tucson, Ariz., Monday.
"The golf course is in great shape and the weather is perfect, so you know you're going to string some birdies along the way," head coach
Dustin White said.
The Cougars shot a 574 (-2) through the first two rounds of competition, just three strokes behind San Diego State (-5, 571) in ninth. No. 4 Arizona State 543 (-33) is in first, a full six strokes ahead of No.7 USC (-27, 543) in second. No. 5 Oklahoma is in third with a two-round score of 556 (-20).
All ranked teams sit within the top-10. No. 32 UNLV (-19, 557) is in fourth place. No. 42 Iowa State and tournament-host No. 49 Arizona are currently tied for seventh with a two-round score of (-14, 562).
Junior
Nicklaus Chiam continues a hot streak of leading the Cougars with a 141 (-3), putting him in a tie with senior
AJ Armstrong, who shot -4 in the second round, for 20th. Junior
Daniel Kolar (+2, 146) is just find strokes behind them in a tie for 53rd. Senior
Grant Cole (+4, 148) and Junior
Scott Redelsperger (+5, 149) round off the team in ties for 59th and 67th respectively.
No. 3 Justin Suh of USC leads the tournament after shooting a 130 (-14). No. 44 Trevor Werbylo (-12, 132) of Arizona follows just two strokes behind in second, just one stroke in front of No. 50 Alex del Rey (-11, 133) of Arizona State in third.
"We had it going for a while and didn't finish how we'd like, but that's what tomorrow is for," White said. "We'll come out and give it all we have until the finish."
