LAS VEGAS – Washington State dropped the opener of its two-game set with UNLV, 17-3 in seven innings at Earl E. Wilson Stadium Wednesday evening.
In the first, UNLV pushed four runs across with three coming on a home run.
In the third, Plew put the Cougars on the board with a solo home run to right field and two batters later, Alvarez singled home a run with a base hit to right field, cutting the UNLV lead to 4-2. The Rebels answered with a pair of RBI-singles in the bottom of the inning.
In the fourth, UNLV used six hits, a hit-by-pitch, a walk and a balk to scored seven runs for a 13-2 advantage and added four more in the sixth before the game was called in the seventh with UNLV up 17-3. UNLV finished the game with 17 hits.
