Cougars Cruise Past Loyola Marymount in Season-Opener

PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State women's basketball opened the season with an impressive 92-45 victory over Loyola Marymount University in front of 2,078 fans at Beasley Coliseum Friday.

Sophomore guard Borislava Hristova led all scorers with 22 points and sophomore Alexys Swedlund recorded her first career double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds, all off the bench. Hristova recorded her tenth career 20-point effort and added six rebounds while 12 Cougars recorded points including freshman Johanna Muzet who added 11 points.

Washington State knocked down 13 three-pointers, tying for the second-most in WSU single-game history game, and set a school record with 64 rebounds, including 28 offensive. WSU shot 40.5 percent in the game and was just as impressive on defense, forcing 18 turnovers in 34 points and recorded 16 steals. WSU also outrebounded the Lions 64-36 and scored 27 second-chance points.

Washington State used seven threes and forced 12 turnovers in to own a 47-28 lead at the half. Hristova led all scorers with 16 points as the Cougars shot over 46 percent from the floor and recorded nine steals in the first 20 minutes. WSU closed the half with a 15-6 run as freshmen Johanna Muzet hit a three in the right corner and Hristova also knocked down a three before closing the half with a jumper.

It was all Cougars in the second half, scoring the first seven points of the third quarter as Hailey drained a three from the right wing before Hirstova scored on a fastbreak and another on a rebound putback. WSU added four more 3-pointers in the third to open up a 31-point advantage and cruised to a 92-45 victory.
