Cougars Shine at USA T&F Outdoor Championships

DES MOINES, Iowa -- The trio of Washington State track and field competitors - Alissa Brooks-Johnson, Brock Eager, and CJ (Craig) Allen - fared well at the 2018 USATF Outdoor Championships, held June 21-24, at Drake Stadium in Des Moines, Iowa.
 
Brooks-Johnson, from Doty, Wash., finished seventh in the women's heptathlon with a score of 5,850 points, just three points behind sixth-place. Brooks-Johnson ran the 100m hurdles in a time 13.91 seconds, cleared 5-feet 6 1/2 inches (1.69m) in the high jump, threw the shot put 41-2 1/4 (12.55m) and ran the 200m in a time of 24.79 to complete the first day with 3,437 points in 11th place. The second day she long jumped 18-9 3/4 (5.73m), threw the javelin 139-8 (42.58m), and ran the 800m in a time of 2 minutes 12.51 seconds, just 46/100m seconds off her PR time. Brooks-Johnson completed her collegiate eligibility with her second All-America first team heptathlon performance at the 2018 NCAA Championships. Brooks-Johnson's lifetime-best of score of 5,977 points was achieved at the 2018 Bryan Clay Multis in Azusa, Calif., and is the second-best heptathlon score in WSU all-time. She is a three-time Pac-12 heptathlon champion winning titles in 2015, 2017 and 2018. She finished sixth in the heptathlon at both the 2017 and 2018 NCAA Championships and was 11th in the pentathlon at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Championships.
 
Eager, a rising senior at WSU from Renton, Wash., finished 13th in the men's hammer with a best throw of 223-feet 5 inches (68.11m). His other two throws were distances of 220-2 (67.11m) and 215-3 (65.62m). Eager's lifetime-best distance of 228-3 (69.57m), achieved at the 2018 Stanford Invitational, was the 13th-best of the field at the USA Championships. His PR mark is fourth-best in WSU's all-time records. He was the 2017 Pac-12 hammer champion and finished as the runner-up this spring. He is a two-time All-America second team honoree after 14th-place finishes in the hammer at the 2017 and at the 2018 NCAA Championships
 
Allen, from Allyn, Wash., completed his collegiate eligibility in 2017. He captured sixth place in the men's 400m hurdles with a PR time of 48.58 seconds. Allen ran a first round time of 50.24, and a time of 49.71 in the semifinals. His collegiate PR was 49.40 seconds, achieved at the 2017 NCAA West Prelims and third-best in WSU all-time records. He won the Pac-12 400m hurdles titles in 2014 and 2016, and was the runner-up in 2017. Allen placed ninth in the 2017 NCAA Championships to earn All-America second team honors.
