Cougars Trio Compete at Pac-12 T&F Combined Events Championships

COUGS COMPETE AT PAC-12 COMBINED EVENTS CHAMPIONSHIPS
The Pac-12 Conference Track & Field Combined Events Championships are Saturday and Sunday, May 5 & 6, at Stanford's Cobb Track & Angell Field... 88th Annual Pac-12 Men's and 32nd Pac-12 Women's Championships...WSU competitors in the Combined Events are Alissa Brooks-Johnson and Lindsey Schauble in the heptathlon, and Martin Moldau in the decathlon...Brooks-Johnson won the Pac-12 Heptathlon in 2017 and 2015...more info on pages 3 & 4...events begin at Noon Saturday and 11 a.m. Sunday...Live Results can be viewed at www.pac-12.org...individual events and team relays at Pac-12 T&F Championships take place May 12-13, at Stanford.

WAYNE PHIPPS, DIR. OF WSU CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD
Wayne Phipps (University of British Columbia '91) is in his fourth season with the Washington State track and field program...Phipps led the Cougar men's cross country program back-to-back-to-back NCAA Championships at-large berth appearances...Cougs finished 21st in 2017, 14th in 2016 - the highest in 32 years, and 26th in 2015....in track and field seasons, mentored student-athletes to WSU top-ten performances 35 times in the indoor season and 47 times in the outdoor season....there have also been conference all-academic honors awarded to WSU student-athletes 51 times in cross country, 88 times in indoor track and 86 times in outdoor track...Phipps became the 15th men's coach and the second coach for the combined men's and women's program at WSU on July 1, 2014, after 19 years at the University of Idaho...while at Idaho, Phipps was honored 14 times as a conference coach of the year and led the Vandals to a record 16 conference titles.

WSU Track & Field coaching staff includes Associate Head Coaches Julie Taylor (throws), and  Yogi Teevens (sprints, relays)...Assistant Coaches are Brad Walker (vertical jumps), Ryan Grinnell (multis, horizontal jumps) and CharLee Linton (distance)...Kayla Warren is the Operations Coordinator...volunteers include: Tim Taylor and Katie Nageotte...student coach: CJ Allen.

NCAA DESCENDING ORDER LISTS
The NCAA uses national and regional descending order lists to determine the competitors for the 2018 Outdoor Championships...these lists can be viewed at the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Track & Field Results Reporting System website (www.tfrrs.org)...the top 48 in each individual event and the top 24 declared relay teams are accepted the East or West Region Preliminary Rounds...West Region Prelims are May 24-26, in Sacramento... twelve competitors from each individual event and 12 teams from each relay event advance to the national championships...for the decathlon and heptathlon, the top 24 declared student-athletes in each of these two events will be accepted into the national championships and do not compete at the Regional meets...WSU's 2018 outdoor season bests marks can be found at www.wsucougars.com.
