PULLMAN, Wash. -- The Washington State volleyball team will take a 10-day tour of Europe May 16-27, where the Cougars will train, compete against foreign opponents, and visit historical sites and cultural landmarks in four countries.
Â
WSU will depart Spokane May 16 and arrive in Vienna, Austria, to begin the tour. Among the stops for the Cougars are: Graz, Austria; Moribor, Slovenia; Pula and other cities in Croatia; Venice, Desenzano di Garda, Milan and Lake Como in Italy. The team will tour popular cultural destinations and experience the lifestyles of these countries.
Â
WSU will play three matches against quality foreign competition in addition to the training and practice sessions before the trip in Pullman and on the road.
Â
"We are extremely excited for the opportunity to take this team on a foreign tour!" WSU Head Coach
Jen Greeny said. "The experience of both international travel and competition will last a lifetime for these student-athletes. We are grateful for all of the donations we received and are thrilled to be able to represent Washington State overseas this summer."
Â
The NCAA allows teams to take a foreign tour once every four years and matches must be against teams from outside the United States. This is the first foreign tour for WSU Volleyball since 2002 and is through Bring It Promotions (BIP).
Â
WSU is coming off back-to-back NCAA Championship tournament Second Round appearances and returns 11 letterwinners to the 2018 squad.
