FAIRFAX, Calif.- The first round of the Meadow Club Women's Collegiate concluded on Monday, with the WSU women's golf team sitting in eighth out of the 16-team field. The team shot an overall 300(+12), and finished the round with three Cougars in the top-25. Due to a weather delay, teams were only able to complete one, 18-hole round rather than the 36 originally scheduled. Teams will attempt to finish the second and third round on Tuesday.

Not letting the late start get to her, senior
Alivia Brown played her way steadily around the Meadow Club course, as she carded the lowest score of the day for the Cougars, tallying a 73(+1). The only hiccups for Brown on the course came on the back nine when she posted a pair of bogeys just before making the turn back to the front of the course. Despite, losing two strokes early, Brown quickly recovered as she took advantage of the short par-4 on hole three to reclaim on of the strokes. Her steady finish moved her into a tie for 14th on the leaderboard, just six strokes back of the overall leader and 82nd ranked player in the country, Colorado's Brittany Fan who finished the day at at five-under.

Just behind Brown, junior
Madison Odiorne and sophomore
Marie Lund-Hansen tied for 23rd in the standings after each scored a 74(+2) for the first 18 holes. Lund-Hansen got off to a solid start as she birdied her opening hole on the par-4, seventh, before adding two more birdies on the back on 17 and 18 as she headed to hole one at two-under par. The hot start would cool on the front of the course as a few errant shots would prove costly. Despite the finish to her opening round, Lund-Hansen set herself up for success on Tuesday as she carded a team-best three birdies on day one with 36 holes to make a run at the top of the standings.

Overall, No.15 Washington leads the tournament after day one at five-under thanks to placing two in the top-three individually. No.19 Colorado and San Francisco came in tied at second, each recording a team-score of 291(+3).
The Cougs will tee off round two in a fixed start beginning with
Emily Baumgart at 9:10 from hole one. The rest of the team will follow in 10 minute increments to start round two. WSU will play alongside golfers from No. 22 Illinois, No. 46 BYU, and UC Davis on Tuesday.
