PULLMAN, Wash. – Washington State rowing is ranked 13th in the first USRowing/Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) Division I Poll presented by Pocock Racing Shells, of the 2017-18 season, released Wednesday, March 28, marking its 98th-consecutive week in the top-20.
The Cougars have been ranked in each weekly poll dating back to June 11, 2008 (98 weeks) and have been in the top-15 for 30 consecutive weeks going back to March 25, 2015.Â
Five of the Pac-12's seven rowing squads are ranked in the top-20, including the top-two spots as defending national champion-Washington is ranked first with 494 votes and California is No. 2 with 478 votes. All five of the ranked Pac-12 teams are in the top-15, as Stanford is 10th (300 votes) and USC is right in front of Washington State in 12th with 192 votes. The Cougars are 13th with 159 points, three ahead of 14th-ranked Syracuse. UCLA (38) and Oregon State (four) are receiving votes.
Rounding out the top-five is Texas in third with 398 votes, Princeton fourth with 383 and Michigan in fifth with 373 votes.Â
The Huskies won the 2017 National Championship, having swept all three events. California was second with 123 points, Michigan third (112 points), Texas fourth (108 points) and Ohio State fifth (106).
The Cougars have already faced the No. 2 and No. 3 teams in the nation this season, having competed against California and Texas at the San Diego Crew Classic, March 24-25. California swept the three events, while Texas placed second in all three. WSU will face No. 1 Washington this weekend at Seattle at 9:15 a.m.Â
