BANDON, Ore.- On a day in which the course was open for the taking, the WSU men's golf team took advantage and moved within striking distance of the lead and tied for third place following the second round of the Bandon Dunes Championship on Monday. For the second-straight day the Cougs carded a collective four-under, 280 to post a two-day total of 560 (-8). The Cougs sit tied with No. 15 Clemson and Santa Clara with a chance to make a run at No. 22 Arizona State Tuesday as the Sun Devils take the tournament lead into the final day at 17-under par.

The Cougs team effort was led by senior Derek Bayley who put himself in contention for the individual title thanks to a four-under, 67, Monday afternoon. Bayley shaved a stroke off of his first round score thanks to a five-birdie performance to finish the second day at 135 overall, seven-under par for the tournament. Bayley sits just two strokes shy of first place Chun An Yu of Arizona State (133,-9).
 
Also putting himself within reach of the tournament title and in the top-10 after two days was junior AJ Armstrong. Not to be outdone, Armstrong closed out the day at three-under par with a 68. The third-year, Coug did his damage around the turn as he recorded five-straight birdies from the par-4, 8th, through the par-5, 12th to race up the leaderboard. Armstrong sits tied for ninth place with a two round score of 138(-4), up five positions from his first round finish.
 
Senior Brian Mogg finished his day tied for 26th after posting a three-over, 74. For the tournament, Mogg is one-over. Senior Zach Anderson sits two stokes back from Mogg, having carded a 72 (+1) while also knocking in his second eagle of the tournament after recording his first the day prior.
 
The third and final round of the Bandon Dunes Championship will tee off Tuesday morning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.
