T&F Heads to Albuquerque and Seattle for Indoor Meets

The Washington State University track and field teams split again this weekend for indoor competition...the men and women distance runners will head to Seattle for the UW Invitational Meet, Jan. 26-27 at the Dempsey Indoor Facility...all other events competitors will travel to Albuquerque for the New Mexico Team Invitational Meet, Jan. 27...the meet is held at the Albuquerque Convention Center, site of many national and international meets...Live Results will be available at recordtiming.com ..the link for Live Results from Seattle will be placed on the WSU T&F online schedule page when available before the meet...results will be posted at www.wsucougars.com, following both meet's completion.

WAYNE PHIPPS, DIR. OF WSU CROSS COUNTRY/TRACK & FIELD
Wayne Phipps (University of British Columbia '91) is in his fourth season with the Washington State track and field program...Phipps led the Cougar men's cross country program back-to-back-to-back NCAA Championships at-large berth appearances...Cougs finished 21st in 2017, 14th in 2016 - the highest in 32 years, and 26th in 2015....in track and field seasons, mentored student-athletes to WSU top-ten performances 24 times in the indoor season and 47 times in the outdoor season....there have also been conference all-academic honors awarded to WSU student-athletes 51 times in cross country, 88 times in indoor track and 86 times in outdoor track...Phipps became the 15th men's coach and the second coach for the combined men's and women's program at WSU on July 1, 2014, after 19 years at the University of Idaho...while at Idaho, Phipps was honored 14 times as a conference coach of the year and led the Vandals to a record 16 conference titles.

COUGAR TRACK & FIELD COACHING STAFF
WSU Track & Field coaching staff includes Associate Head Coaches Julie Taylor (throws), and  Yogi Teevens (sprints, relays)...Assistant Coaches are Brad Walker (vertical jumps), Ryan Grinnell (multis, horizontal jumps) and CharLee Linton (distance)...Kayla Warren is the Operations Coordinator...volunteers include: Tim Taylor and Katie Nageotte...student coach: CJ Allen.

COUGAR INDOOR SET FOR FEB. 2-3
The Cougar Indoor collegiate invitational meet will be Feb. 2-3 at the WSU Indoor Facility...tentative time schedule is on page 5 of this release.

NCAA DESCENDING ORDER LISTS
The NCAA uses national descending order lists to determine the competitors for the 2018 Indoor Championships...these lists can be viewed at the United States Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Track & Field Results Reporting System website (www.tfrrs.org)...the top 16 individuals and 12 relays will move on to compete at the NCAA Indoor Championships March 9-10 in College Station, Texas (Texas A&M host school)...best marks for the Cougars throughout the 2018 indoor season can be found at www.wsucougars.com.
