Volleyball Takes on Two Ranked Teams to Open 2016 Season

WSU VOLLEYBALL TAKES ON TWO RANKED TEAMS TO OPEN 2016 SEASON
The Washington State University volleyball team opens the 2016 season this weekend at the Purdue Mortar Board Premier Tournament in Holloway Gymnasium in West Lafayette, Ind...Friday, Aug. 26, WSU plays No. 24 Kentucky at 9 a.m. PT, and then takes on the host team, No. 20 Purdue, at 4:30 p.m PT...WSU plays Wyoming Saturday, Aug. 27, at 10 a.m. PT...the WSU vs. Purdue match  will have live streaming video through BTN Plus on BTN2Go.com for a subscription fee...all WSU matches will have radio/internet broadcasts (see below) with Friday morning's broadcast on KHTR 104.7 FM...WSU volleyball has won its season-opening match in 22 of the past 24 years.

Cougar volleyball fans can listen to all the road contests during the 2016 season LIVE in the Palouse on KQQQ-1150 AM radio and/or KHTR- 104.7 FM…veteran area broadcaster Steve Grubbs is the voice of Cougar volleyball for the 11th consecutive season...road match audio is also available online at wsucougars.com.

COUGAR COACHING STAFF
Jen Stinson Greeny is in her sixth season as WSU's head coach (69-92 at WSU, 5 years; 181-116 in career, 9 years) - complete Greeny bio on page 4...assistant coaches Burdette Greeny (sixth year) and Shannon Hunt (fourth year)...all coaches are former WSU student-athletes...volunteer coach Milan Vucinic (first year)...Katie Hinrichs is coordinator of operations (sixth year).

HOLT IS PRESEASON ALL-PAC-12 SELECTION
Kyra Holt, WSU'S outstanding senior OH is one of 14 players named to the 2016 Preseason All-Pac-12 Volleyball Team, by a vote of the conference coaches...Holt, a 6-1 outside hitter from Hercules, Calif., was a 2015 All-Pac-12 First Team selection, and a member of the 2016 Pac-12 All-Star team that competed in China earlier this summer...last season Holt led WSU with 3.91 kps (6th-best in Pac-12/62nd-best in NCAA) and 4.51 pps (7th-best in Pac-12/52nd-best in NCAA)...a talented all-around player, she also led the team with a 35 service aces and her 0.32 aces per set average was fourth-best in Pac-12.

ON THE NATIONAL STAGE
WSU is ranked No. 33 in the 2016 PrepVolleyball.com College Top 50 preseason rankings...the ranking is based on the strength and depth of 12 returning letterwinners and six returning starters including All-Pac-12 first team selection Kyra Holt and Pac-12 All-Freshman first team McKenna Woodford...this is the first time the Cougars have been ranked on the College Top 50 preseason list...during the 2015 season, WSU was ranked twice during the season in the PrepVolleyball.com College Top 50: No. 46 (Oct. 12) and No. 44 (Oct. 19)...the Cougars also received votes in the AVCA Top 25 Poll on Sept. 21 and again Oct. 12, 2015...WSU will play 10 teams this season that are ranked in the AVCA Preseason Top 25 or have received votes in this Aug. 10 poll.
