Roman and the Canadian Eight Advance to Finals at Rio

Nicole Hare finished second in the C Final in the Canadian Pair.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Brazil – Former Washington State rower Lisa Roman (2011-13) and the rest of the Canadian women's eight crew won the Repechage heat Thursday and advanced to the event final, Saturday, Aug. 13. Current rower and fellow Canadian, Nicole Hare (2013-present), finished second, along with her teammate Jennifer Martins, in the women's pair C Final, Thursday, at the 2016 Olympic Games. 

The Canadian eight (Cristy Nurse, Lisa Roman, Antje von Seydlitz-Kurzback, Christine Roper, Lauren Wilkinson, Susanne Grainger, Natalie Mastracci, Caileigh Filmer and Lesley Thompson-Willie) led the entire race to finish with a time of 6:28.07, over four seconds ahead of second-place Russia in at 6:32.64. 

The Repechage included five crews that did not advance immediately to the finals from the preliminary heats. The top four advance to the final as New Zealand and the Netherlands joined Canada and Russia. The United States and Great Britain advanced to the final earlier in the week.

The final takes place Saturday, Aug. 13 at 6:04 a.m. PT.

Hare and the Canadian pair ended up in the C Final after not advancing to the A or B Finals in the preliminary heats and the Repechage. 

The Netherlands placed first with a time of 8:23.61, followed by Canada (8:23.03) and Bulgaria (8:32.54).  The Canadian's pair crew notched a 14th-place overall finish.
