PULLMAN, Wash. – Former collegiate and professional golfer,
Chris Gilbert, has been named Washington State assistant men's golf coach, first-year head coach
Dustin White announced Monday.Â
"I am very excited for Chris to join the program," White said. "He accomplished a lot of really great things during his playing days at Kansas and he knows what it takes to be successful at the collegiate level. He will bring a good set of ideas and values that will help get us where we want to be, and I think his personality will fit well with the young men on the team. Â He's easy to talk to and I think they will enjoy being around him."
A 2013 graduate of Kansas, Gilbert was a two-time individual medalist and is the only golfer in Jayhawks history to make two separate appearances as an individual at the NCAA Regionals. He led the team in scoring average for three-consecutive seasons and was an All-Big 12 Selection. While in college he was a member of the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) executive committee for three years and was actively involved in organizing community service events.Â
"I really look forward to joining the WSU golf program," Gilbert said. "I think the sky is the limit for the program and I'm excited about the opportunity to work with Dustin (White). The combination of the school, the atmosphere and the Pullman community is second to none."
Following graduation, Gilbert turned pro in 2013 and competed on the Adams Pro Tour and Web.com Tour Q School for three years.Â
A native Simi Valley, Calif., Gilbert spent his final two seasons of high school at Royal High School after moving from North Carolina.Â
