WSU Men’s and Women’s Basketball to Hold Open Practices Oct. 15

The general public can catch both teams in action prior to the football team’s game against UCLA.

PULLMAN, Wash. – The Washington State University men's and women's basketball programs will hold practices open to the public, Saturday, Oct. 15 at Beasley Coliseum, with the men's practice scheduled for 1:30 p.m. and the women's practice following, at approximately 2 p.m.

Members of the men's and women's basketball teams will be available to sign autographs on the concourse of Beasley Coliseum following the conclusion of the women's team's practice. Those in attendance will also hear from head coaches Ernie Kent, in his third year, and June Daugherty, in her 10th year.

Cougar women's basketball, led by Daugherty, returns four starters from last year's team highlighted by All-Pac-12 selection, sophomore guard, Borislava Hristova and Pac-12 All-Defensive Team honorable mention, junior guard, Caila Hailey. The Cougars also welcome in five freshmen including five-star point guard Chanelle Molina out of Hawaii.

Washington State men's basketball returns three starters from the 2015-16 season, including All-Pac-12 Honorable Mention, Josh Hawkinson, who led the league in rebounds per game and double-doubles, ranking in the top-12 nationally in both categories. Seven newcomers join the team that had a chance to bond this summer on an international tour of Italy where the team went 3-2 in its five games, while learning more about the country and its history.

Both teams will hold exhibition games, Sunday, Nov. 6, with the women hosting Alaska Anchorage at 2 p.m. at Beasley Coliseum, and the men hosting Carroll College at 5 p.m. The season officially begins for both teams at home Friday, Nov. 11 as the men host Montana State at 4 p.m. and the women host Loyola Marymount at 7 p.m., both games at Beasley Coliseum. The women's game is the first of four-straight home games for the team.

Season tickets and mini plans are on sale for the 2016-17 men's and women's basketball seasons, while single-game tickets go on sale Monday, Oct. 17.
